ch-ch-ch-changes
Well, it's happened again. For 2 years it's been silent, but now that old devil, my nemesis, The Rearranging Furniture Bug has bitten me again.
It's my mother's fault, actually. Blast her and that H-G-T-V! But noooOOOooo. She started in with "I wonder how we could rearrange your living room so it was more functional." Actually, my mother doesn't use words like "functional". What she said was, "How could we change this room so it's not so awkward?"
Yeah.
Okay, so I'll admit to having almost similar thoughts. I mean, first of all, this computer/craft/school/piano/crap room is waaaay outta control. It's a small room anyhow, but add all this stuff to it and it's just flat insane. (and what else would it be, I ask you?!)
The living room is tolerable, but still, the layout of furniture is awkward. Since it's such a long semi-narrow room with an interruption in each of the four walls (three with doorways almost centered and one with an angled fireplace) it's murder to try and arrange it in a comfortable fashion. We used to split the room, dividing it into two sections with a sofa or something. But since getting this living room suite a couple of years ago, we were able to arrange the room so that it was one open layout. Which is good. But not.
*sigh*
So my big idea is to switch rooms. *gulp* Yes. I intend to move everything from this room into the living room. And everything except the chair, ottoman and china cabinet from in there to here.
During all this, I need to polish the hardwood floor that's in there and shampoo the carpet that's in here. There's also talk of painting that room in there, too....but we'll see how that goes.
From that room must come an oversized sofa and loveseat, two large-ish end tables and a matching coffee table and a 4.5 ft H X 4.5 ft W entertainment center that's loaded to the gills.
From this room must go this computer desk and all the crap that is upon and in it. Well...okay, not ALL. I DO intend to toss, toss, toss! There's also two 6 ft tall bookcases, a 6 ft double door cabinet, a 5 ft H microwave cart, a piano, a 4 ft H bookcase, a 60" round table with two chairs, a small 3 H x 1 W shelf. ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE LOADED TO THE MAX. There are also several large totes full of craft items and paints along with about 6 plastic file boxes. And this is the small room.
So I'm wracking my brain to figure out how to manage this since there's absolutely no place to put this stuff except for into its new home.
The hardwood living room is off the kitchen and you can look through the kitchen entrance door straight through to the back wall of the living room. It's a fairly long room, like I said, so I think what we'll do is move everything to the far end of the room, polish that half of the hardwood, then start moving bookcases and such from in here since that's the end of the living room they will go. Everything except the piano. Then we'll have to tackle the carpet in there.
It's truly horrible. Once we had a young dog that got run over. She was banged up pretty bad, but no broken bones. We treated her and nursed her back to health ourselves, but that meant bringing her inside for a few days. As soon as she was able to move very much, she promptly came in here and peed right smack in the middle of the floor on my light beige berber carpet. It's never been the same since. We've used everything you can think of to get that up, even St@nley Ste@mer!!! Nothing worked.
If we can't lighten it this time, we'll have to resort to the large area rug from the attic. That'd be all well and good except it's almost white. Not a good option for boys. No.
Anyhow, so after the carpet, we'll have to wait for it to dry. One day gone.
The next day we'll have to start moving the sofa, loveseat, tables and tv center into this room. Then we can polish the rest of the hardwood and move the china cabinet to an adjacent wall, then move the piano in place of the cabinet.
That will pretty much cover it except for patching holes and moving wall decor around.
It's going to be a long, hard week when we start that. And from what Tommy's said, he won't even think about starting it til the week of Thanksgiving. Gah.
I'm just glad we're not hosting!
I'll post pictures soon so you can watch the progress or lack thereof, whichever may be the case!

I get the bug to rearrange the furniture all the time. Haven't yet put the head of the bed in the closet yet, but I'm still considering...
And yeah, there's only so much you can do with a house of boys.

have you tried rubbing alcohol on the stain? that usually works well with puppy pee.... or something from the pet store specifically for that purpose
we just painted and redid our son's room, i know what a headache that can be!

Can't wait to see pictures!! I hate rearranging rooms too, but once it's done, it's good job done!!!
Good luck!

Nope, Dia, I haven't tried alcohol, but will be sure to give it a shot. :s
Mom paid for paint, etc. to redo both the boys' rooms about three years ago. It was a major deal, too. Two-tone walls, border, paint trim, etc. ACK!
She's talking about doing it again. I have to agree, it needs doing. They've both changed a lot in those years. Corey's no longer into 1800's history so much. Casey is a bit tired of his fishing theme, too.
I need to keep a reign on mom b/c she does tend to overdo the theme thing a bit. *sigh* But saying it and DOING it are two entirely different things!
Yikes!

No "sounds like" to it, Linda. It will most definitely be a lot of work.
If i live through it, I'll be glad, though. ;)
Seriously, I dunno why I can't do things a little at a time. But if I don't do something pretty soon about all the accumulated stuffage in this house, I'm gonna have to move to a new house....wid a wubbah woom!

LOL, Tracey, something tells me you've been down this here road before!
;) Yeah, it's backbreaking, but very nice when it's all done and HOPEFULLY if we can get it all done before Christmas, it'll make things WAY nice!
Y'know...a couple of new rooms to celebrate in. (No, I don't NEED new furniture to feel like I have a new room! :)

There needs to be before and after pics! :)

Don't you worry, Claire. I already took pix. Just haven't uploaded 'em yet.
I'm afraid they might give me nightmares.

I can't believe you have ALL that stuff in a little ROOM!! I bet you will be wondering why you didn't make the move before. Just let Mom do all the work. You sit and supervise!! ha ha

Oh I LOVE moving furniture around. You get to deep clean all that stuff and rearrange it all. I can wear myself out but I feel so much better when it's all done.
There, doesn't it sound like fun now???
:D
Seriously though, I'm not lying. I love to do this stuff. Can't wait to see pics!

Um, nope. Still doesn't sound fun, Kym.
I DO love it when I'm all done, but usually I pretty much put myself out of commission for one to three days, depending on how hard the work is.
Since we're painting, wax/polishing hardwood, carpet cleaning AND moving two rooms completely around? Oh, and I have a catch in my back (it's fairly minor, but kinks up w/certain movements) and today have had horrible shoulder pain...well, I'm not feeling too optimistic. It's so hard to feel like doing this kinda thing when I hurt. Even tho I AM realllly wanting to make the changes.
*sigh*
HeeEEEeeey....you DO know where I live, y'know. You could come down and get your jollies here! I'll buy Mt. Dew and SkiiIIIttles... ;Þ
